From an image to a practice list
Start with a photo of the spelling words you already have
Point the camera at the sheet from school, or pick a screenshot of the list from the class app. Snap Spell reads the words, shows them to you, and saves only what you approve.
Free to start: 2 word lists of up to 100 words each. Pro: US$2.99/month, US$19.99/year or US$29.99 once (UK £2.99/£19.99/£29.99; Australia A$4.99/A$29.99/A$49.99).
Snap Spell
Can I scan a spelling list and practice it?
Yes. Scan Words reads a printed list with the camera, and Import Photos reads a photo or screenshot you already have. Text recognition runs on your iPhone. Each recognised word then appears on a review screen, so you can fix any misread before the list is saved.
Get a clean scan the first time
Most misreads come from the photo, not the words.
- 1 Lay the sheet flat in even light, without shadows across the words.
- 2 Fill the frame with the word list and leave out instructions or sentences where you can.
- 3 Tap Scan Words and take the photo.
- 4 Read through the recognised words, then save the list with a name you will recognise next week.
What to check on the review screen
Fix these before you save, so practice never starts with a wrong spelling. A missed word can be added with Add Word.
Look-alike letters
Check pairs such as l and I, rn and m, or a missing double letter. Tap the word to correct it.
Headings and names
Words from a heading, a name, or an instruction can come through too. Swipe left to delete them.
Handwriting
Printed lists scan best. A handwritten list usually needs more corrections, so read it word by word.
Add the back page later
If the list continues on another page, open the saved list and use Scan More: the new words join the same list. A wrong word found later can still be fixed by long-pressing it and choosing Edit Word.
Questions about scanning
Is the photo uploaded or kept?
No. The words are read on your iPhone and the scan image is not kept. Only the word list you save stays in Snap Spell.
Can I scan a screenshot from the class app?
Yes. Save the screenshot to Photos, then choose Import Photos instead of Scan Words. The same review screen follows.
