Snap Spell Privacy Policy

Scanning and text recognition

When you scan a printed word list or import a selected photo, Snap Spell uses on-device text recognition to detect words.

• Camera access is used only when you choose to scan printed words.
• Photo access is used only for photos you choose to import.
• Original scan images are not kept by the app after recognition.

Saved practice data

Saved word lists, practice status, child or family profiles, voice settings, and app settings are stored locally in the app container on your device.

• You can delete lists in the app.
• You can remove app data by deleting the app from your device.
• Separate profiles can keep practice progress separate while sharing the same saved lists.

Sharing, files, and PDFs

Snap Spell can create practice PDFs and Snap Spell files only when you choose to export or share them.

• Exports use the iOS share sheet or destinations you choose.
• Anyone you share a PDF or Snap Spell file with can see the words and related file contents.
• File names and exported contents are not sent to MarcX Studio by the app.

iCloud Backup

Pro users can back up app data to their private iCloud database and restore it manually later. This is backup and manual restore, not live multi-device sync.

• Backup can include saved word lists, practice progress, profiles, voice settings, and app settings.
• Backup does not include original source images, temporary Snap Spell files, purchase state, or analytics events.
• iCloud storage is handled by Apple under your Apple ID and iCloud settings.

AI voices

On iOS 26 and later, Snap Spell Pro can offer AI voices. These are pre-recorded voice packs that the app downloads from servers hosted by Apple. Playback happens on your device, and your word text is not sent anywhere to generate speech.

• Voice packs download over cellular data only after you agree.
• You can delete downloaded voice packs in Settings.

Purchases and Pro

If you buy or restore Snap Spell Pro, App Store purchase APIs and RevenueCat may process purchase status, entitlement information, and store identifiers needed to manage the purchase.

Reminders and weekly report

Practice reminders and weekly new-list reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. Snap Spell does not use a push notification server.

• The weekly report is calculated on your device.
• A shareable image of the report is created on your device and is shared only when you choose it in the share sheet.

External actions

Some actions can open Apple or web services only after you choose them.

• Dictionary lookup uses Apple reference libraries when available.
• Google, web, and pronunciation searches open only after you tap those actions.
• When you open an external search, the search term is sent to the service you choose.

Advertising

Starting with Snap Spell 2.0, the app shows no ads to anyone, contains no advertising SDK, and does not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt.

• Earlier versions (1.5 and below) could show a Google App Open ad in the Free version. Snap Spell Pro never showed ads.
• Those earlier versions requested non-personalized advertising treatment, did not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt, and did not send Google ads your scanned text, word list titles or words, child or family profile names, photos, file names, or Snap Spell file contents.
• Where Google required a privacy choice, earlier versions offered it at Settings > Privacy. If you still use an earlier version, please update Snap Spell from the App Store.

Analytics and crash reports

Snap Spell uses Firebase services from Google to understand privacy-safe usage, fix crashes, and turn features on or off.

• Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics) records usage events. They do not include scanned text, word list titles, word text, child names, photos, file names, or Snap Spell file contents.
• Firebase Crashlytics collects crash reports, such as stack traces and device and app state at the time of a crash.
• Firebase Remote Config fetches feature settings, for example whether a new feature is on. No personal content is sent for this.

Feedback and support

In Settings > Help & Feedback, in voice settings, and in "This word sounds wrong", Snap Spell opens a feedback form hosted by Tally (tally.so) in your browser. Whatever you type into the form is received by MarcX Studio through Tally.

• The app pre-fills hidden fields: app version, build number, iOS version, device model identifier, app language, region, plan (Free or Pro), which entry point you used, and the selected voice if any.
• Only "This word sounds wrong" also includes that one word.
• The app never sends child or profile names or the contents of your word lists.
• If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to send. If you send beta feedback through TestFlight, Apple shares that feedback with the developer according to TestFlight feedback flows.
